Théâtre Sans Frontières creates a rich and diverse theatre which explores and celebrates cultural exchange. Dedicated to creating a European theatre of excellence, the company produces and tours plays by world authors in their original language. Since 1991, TSF has produced over 40 shows in English, French, German and Spanish and toured extensively to theatres, arts centres, schools and colleges throughout the UK and in recent years to festivals in Tunisia, Egypt and China. TSF is renowned for its vibrant and visually-driven productions which are made accessible to all through mime, mask, puppetry, clowning, dance and live music.
Théâtre Sans Frontières' performers and directors have trained with international masters Philippe Gaulier and Monika Pagneux. They have worked with, amongst others: the Royal National Theatre; Compass Theatre Ltd; Northern Stage; Théâtre Répère, Canada; Robert Lepage; John Wright; Marcello Magni; Pete Brooks; Joff Chafer; and Angela de Castro. The company collaborates regularly with performers, directors and choreographers from around the world.
In 2006, TSF was awarded the prestigious CiLT award for Innovation in Modern Foreign Language Teaching for its production of Around the World in 80 Minutes. In 2010 the company was awarded Highly Commended by CiLT for its French language project Marie Curie and the Discovery of Radium. The company's co-production Lipsynch has been awarded the Dora Mavor Moore Award for Outstanding Touring Production from the Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts for its performance at the Luminato Festival in Toronto in 2009. It has also been awarded the Golden Mask for Best Foreign Production presented in Russia in 2009 for its performance at the Chekhov International Theatre Festival in Moscow.
TSF is a registered charity (No. 1046461) and in early 2011 was awarded National Portfolio Organisation (NPO) status by Arts Council England.
