Aladin et La Lampe Enchantée toured to China in summer 2006 where it was a hit at the Shanghai International Children’s Festival. The festival included TSF and ten other theatre companies from Japan, China, Taiwan, Croatia, Russia, Poland and Belgium.
It came hot on the heels of our spring tour of the French production Aladin et la Lampe Enchantée. The festival organisers invited the company to Shanghai to perform an English language version of Aladin at the Ma Lanhua Theatre, a new purpose built theatre for children. At the same time we were able to take up the offer of the Nanjing Culture and Arts Centre to perform in their children’s theatre festival.
The two week tour was a massive success. Both theatres were packed to the rafters with almost 4,500 people seeing the production, most of whom were children from the two big cities as well neighbouring rural areas. The 1200 seat theatre in Nanjing sold out with over 500 people queuing on the night hoping to pick up returned tickets.
At the end of the tour the company was presented with The Excellent Performance Award, and after such a successful tour the organisers are keen for TSF to come back to perform next year. This will possibly be extended to a national tour of China and we hope to include some collaborative work with local actors in the area.
The production of Conte Dorés based on two stories; one French Canadian ‘Petit Jean et le Cheval Blanc’ and one French ‘Les Trois Pommes D’or’, performed in simple French, featured in the Cairo International Children's Festival, Egypt, in February 2007.
TSF Artistic Director John Cobb and Sarah Kemp have spent a long gestation process with Robert Lepage (Ex Machina) in creating Lipsynch with seven other international performers, having developed two parts of this amazing nine part piece.
The nine-hour epic was conceived and evolved by Lepage with each part being led by a different performer, including John and Sarah who appeared in Lipsynch in the hugely successful run at the Barbican (September 2008)and will tour worldwide, including France, Spain and Canada, throughout 2008/9.
