Sherlock Holmes: The Speckled Band

Sherlock Holmes: The Speckled Band

LANGUAGE:English

Delve into the highly deductive mind of a super sleuth in this new production of one of the most popular Sherlock Holmes stories. Be enthralled by this exciting and thrilling mystery, featuring a feisty heroine, struggling with and overcoming a domineering presence in her life.

'It is not cold which makes me shiver.'
'What, then?'
'It is fear, Mr Holmes. It is terror.'

The Speckled Band is a classic Sherlock Holmes tale, probably one of the first locked room mysteries. It has, as its heroine, a determined young woman who is maltreated by a manipulative step-father and, as such, is one of the few Sherlock Holmes tales with a proactive female presence. It is also an exploration of the status of women in 19th century England and invites us to think how it might differ from today. With the show opening on 8 March, what better way to celebrate International Women’s Day!

With everything we've come to expect from a Sherlock Holmes murder mystery set in 19th century England, this is also a story that confronts many issues relevant to a 21st century audience. Suitable for young people aged 10+ years, as well as their friends and families, who will be fascinated by Holmes' processes of detection.  Adults will also enjoy this production, enticed into a world of suspense with edgy live music, Gothic motifs and melodrama.

Musician Tim Dalling (New Rope String Band, Kneehigh Theatre) will be performing the original live score he has composed for the production.

This show will appeal to schools, years 5-8, fitting well with English (KS2/3) and History curriculums (KS2 - The Victorians).

Touring March 2022 - dates and venues below. For Warwick on Eden Village Hall, please call 01228 562771 or email anita.timperon@gmail.com to reserve your tickets which can be collected and paid for on the door.
