Canary Gold (2013)

LANGUAGE:English, Spanish and some French, with surtitles

"You have drunk too much Canaries; and that's a marvellous searching wine"
Sir John Falstaff, Henry IV part 2

Malmsey wine: pure Canary gold - once the most sought-after tipple on the high seas!

In modern day Canary Wharf, investment banker Bob Drake is up to his neck in debt, with speculation in Spain and Greece losing him money hand over fist. But when wine merchant Jason Hawkins shows him a rare Canarian wine, said to have been owned by US President Thomas Jefferson, Bob wonders if his fortunes might just be overturned.

Canary Gold connects Sir Francis Drake's plunderings, the exploitation of the Canarian wine-growers, the Madeira forgery scandal and contemporary financial fraudsters, inviting audiences to to ask, who are the real pirates?

A delicious satire on contemporary financial dealings, Canary Gold is an original piece, featuring atmospheric music, outrageous characters and absurd comedy, devised by the actors and director. Performed by an international cast in English, Spanish and French, with surtitles. Suitable for ages 15+
